LSU women's basketball ties program-best season record, downs Mississippi State 74-59

BATON ROUGE – LSU women's basketball' senior class possesses a perfect mix of former walk-ons, transfers and multi-year contributors.

Coach Kim Mulkey's second group made a indelible mark on the program, even if some of them were just this season like LaDazhia Williams and Jasmine Carson.

With No. 4 LSU's 74-59 win over Mississippi State on Sunday inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, the Tigers tied the program's best regular season record, going 27-1.

The focus for the Tigers (27-1, 15-1 SEC) now turns to the SEC Tournament, which for them will start Friday (5 p.m., SEC Network) at the Bon Secours Arena in Greenville, South Carolina, in the quarterfinals.

Angel Reese ties LSU women's basketball legend Sylvia Fowles' double-double record

Reese's first season in Baton Rouge continues to be one for the ages.

The sophomore forward had her 27th double-double on the season, a feat that ties Tigers legend Sylvia Fowles' single-season record.

Against Mississippi State, Reese finished with 21 points and 25 rebounds, the fifth time she's done that.

Reese has already set the program mark for single-game rebounds with 28 against Texas A&M. At the SEC Tournament, she'll have the opportunity to etch her name in the record books again.

LSU bigs limit Mississippi State's inside presence

Bulldogs forward Jessika Carter came into Sunday's contest with plenty of momentum. Known for her defensive prowess, she was taken out of her game early after picking up two fouls and having to sit for a while in the first half.

Carter as well as Ramani Parker couldn't find their footing against Reese and LaDazhia Williams, who had a stellar performance for LSU with 16 points and four boards. Parker and Carter combined for 16 points and 10 rebounds.

LSU to face winner of Georgia-Auburn in quarterfinals

LSU had already wrapped up the double-bye and the No. 2 seed in the SEC Tournament.

Auburn has the same SEC record as Florida at 5-11 but holds the tiebreaker by winning the head-to-head meeting and will be the No. 10 seed.

Georgia, who lost to No. 1 South Carolina on Sunday, will be the No. 7 seed. Georgia and Auburn will play Thursday.

The Bulldogs gave LSU quite the scare inside the PMAC a couple of weeks ago and the Tigers needed to win in overtime.
