When will central Indiana see snow? Could be as soon as tonight depending on where you are

Update Jan. 8 9:30 a.m.: The Indianapolis area may see some snowfall late Monday night with the chance of around one inch of snow but by Tuesday morning the precipitation will mostly turn to rain, meteorologists are predicting.

A winter weather advisory is in for effect tonight in counties north of Indy starting at 10 pm and likely lasting till 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service of Indianapolis.

Areas north of Indianapolis like the Noblesville area, the Muncie area and the Kokomo area will likely see more than one inch of snow accumulate from tonight through Thursday morning.

Jan. 7 weather update

Central Indiana didn’t see much or any snowfall last night after seeing the first snow fall of 2024 late Friday evening.

According to a snowfall analysis from the National Weather Service, only parts of northern and eastern Indiana saw snowfall that was around 1 inch.

The next storm system to watch for may come through the Indianapolis area Monday night and stay through Wednesday, the National Weather Service of Indianapolis said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Rain is expected to be what most of the area sees but snow could be possible at the beginning and end of the precipitation.

The precipitation could have potential impacts on roads and create hazardous driving conditions from snow or wet roads freezing.
