No assault charge indictment for man arrested after Trenton crash that injured couple

A 29-year-old man suspected has been formally charged after a July hit-and-run in Trenton.

On Tuesday, a Butler County grand jury indicted Leiayre Freeman, of Fairfield, on a failure to stop after an accident charge and four charges related to driving under suspension.

Grand jurors declined to indict on three charges, including vehicular assault.

Freeman was arrested after the July 14 crash. The charges stem from a crash where a couple was driving on State Street about to make a turn when they were struck from behind by an SUV.

Investigators said the driver of the SUV fled the scene.

Officials said the wife had some bruising, and the husband had to undergo surgery to repair fractured vertebrae in his spine.

The Butler County prosecutor's office couldn't be reached Tuesday morning for comment.
