After news broke that Auburn had hired Hugh Freeze as its new football coach, Sports Illustrated reported Monday that Freeze would relinquish control of his social media accounts upon taking the job.

Freeze, who is active on social media, has a history of questionable tweets and direct messages.

Freeze denied the report during his introductory news conference Tuesday.

"No, that's not accurate," he said.

There has been backlash related to Freeze's hiring over his contact through Twitter with a sexual assault survivor who criticized Liberty's handling of alleged sexual assaults.

Curiously, Freeze added in response to another question at his introductory news conference that someone else has been running his account for the last couple of weeks. He did not elaborate on who is running it or why someone else is doing that.

In additions to criticisms of Freeze over his use of social media, concerns over NCAA violations from his time at Ole Miss and contact with escorts have made Freeze's arrival at Auburn a lightning rod for criticism on social media.

Freeze was dismissed from Ole Miss prior to the 2017 season.
