No conflict between president and General Zaluzhnyi, says Zelenskyy aide

Presidential Office advisor Mykhailo Podolyak has said there is no conflict between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and General Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, the commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s army, the UK’s Guardian newspaper said on Nov. 20.

"Zelenskyy is (Zaluzhnyi’s) direct boss — there cannot be a conflict by definition," Podolyak said.

Podolyak said that he does not see any disagreements or conflicts at the level of the highest military-political leadership.

Fresh rumors about a "conflict" between Zelenskyy and Zaluzhnyi began to spread after two high-profile articles appeared in the weekly news magazines Time and the Economist.

In a series of articles in the Economist, Zaluzhnyi said that the war was entering a positional phase for Ukraine. The President's Office then issued several statements with indirect refutations of the general’s remarks.

On Nov. 5, Zelenskyy said in an interview with NBC News that the situation at the front was difficult, but he does not believe that the war has reached a “stalemate.” At the same time, he suggested a possible change in Ukraine's military strategy, without elaborating.

Meanwhile, the National Security and Defense Council’s Center for Countering Disinformation has said that Moscow has launched a campaign to discredit Zaluzhnyi, with the aim of trying to convince Ukrainians of a "split between the government and the military."

On Nov. 9, news agency Bloomberg reported that sources from Zelenskyy's entourage had told it that there were no disagreements between the president and Zaluzhnyi.
