No damage from earthquakes that shook Eddy County Wednesday morning

A series of earthquakes jolted southeastern New Mexico and West Texas since late May, including four on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

A 4.5 magnitude earthquake shook an area south southwest of Whites City around 4 a.m. Wednesday. Also reported was 4.4 magnitude earthquake recorded around 3 a.m. 21 miles northwest of Toyah, Texas, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake near Toyah around 4 a.m. and a 2.8 magnitude earthquake around 1:30 a.m. near Malaga, New Mexico.

City of Carlsbad Assistant Fire Chief Ken Ahrens said no damage was reported within the City of Carlsbad.

He said minor earthquakes occur frequently in and around Eddy County frequently.

Eddy County Fire and Rescue Chief Joshua Mack said no damage in the County's rural area was reported.

Since May 28, several earthquakes were reported near the Texas/New Mexico border.
