No injuries reported as coverings give way at Port Hueneme condominium building
Fire crews responded Sunday morning to the collapse of a large swath of wooden and stucco patio coverings over multiple balconies at a Port Hueneme condominium building.
The incident was reported at a large-scale, gated complex shortly after 10 a.m. in the 600 block of Sunfish Way, according to fire reports. As of 11:30 a.m., no one was injured, according to the Ventura County Fire Department, which responded with Oxnard Fire.
The collapse happened at one of the complex's three-story buildings. The canopy appeared to have fallen from over about 12 of the 15 top balconies.
Shortly before noon, a firefighter was using a chainsaw to remove the last of the coverings that hadn't given way.

No evacuations had been ordered, said Scott Matalon, a spokesman for the Port Hueneme Police, which also responded. He described the affected area as a covering above each of the roofs. The coverings were not believed to structural.
Police had left the scene by early Sunday afternoon. Matalon said a small number of firefighters remained. The incident was being investigated, and city and building inspectors had arrived at the complex.
