No luck winning Powerball? You might be playing the unluckiest numbers

Do you play the lottery and never win? It could be the numbers you're choosing.

The gambling website CSGOluck has analyzed the most and least commonly drawn numbers in Powerball since 2015 to determine the luckiest and unluckiest numbers, as well as those that are most overdue.

Lucky and unlucky Powerball numbers

Powerball players pick five main numbers between 1 and 69 and one Powerball number between 1 and 26. Based on over 950 draws from 2015 to 2023, CSGOluck says these are unluckiest numbers in the Powerball main draw:

  • 13

  • 49

  • 34

  • 29

  • 26

  • 5

  • 51

  • 60

  • 4

  • 43

And these are the luckiest:

  • 61

  • 32

  • 63

  • 21

  • 36

  • 69

  • 23

  • 64

  • 39

  • 37

CSGO's study also looked into the numbers that are most overdue to be drawn. The top 5 are:

  • 56, last drawn May 27, 2023

  • 5, last drawn July 17, 2023

  • 49, last drawn July 24, 2023

  • 17, last drawn Aug. 16, 2023

  • 3, last drawn Aug. 21, 2023

Powerball tactics

Many people have their own system that they believe will increase their chances of winning the Powerball jackpot. Players often use a meaningful date, such as a birthday or anniversary, and while this is a widely used tactic, using dates limits your number choices to those between 1 and 31. Out of the top 10 most commonly drawn numbers, only two are within this range.

Another approach is leaving the number selection to Quick Pick, a strategy referring to when the terminal randomly decides the numbers for you. This makes it easy for players and is a popular way to play. In reality, there is no higher chance of winning by using by Quick Pick.

Some players use the same numbers every time, hoping that they will one day land them the Powerball jackpot. However, you could use the same sequence of numbers in every draw for the rest of your life and never win a cent.
