No one injured in detached garage fire, cause under investigation
Jan. 25—GRAND FORKS — There were no injuries in a detached garage fire that took place on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 25, in Grand Forks.
The Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched at 3:34 p.m. to 219 Seward Avenue.
Around 4 p.m., Battalion Chief Carlson told the Herald the fire had been almost fully extinguished.
The fire started in the vehicle that was parked in the garage before spreading to the structure itself.
"We're doing some salvage work and then we'll begin our investigation," Carlson said.
According to a press release from the fire department, the vehicle and garage sustained significant damage.
The Grand Forks Fire Marshals investigated and determined the cause of the fire to be accidental, due to a faulty block heater cord, the release said.
The Grand Forks Fire Department responded to the fire with five engines, one truck and one command vehicle. There were 17 personnel on scene. The Grand Forks Police Department and Altru Ambulance assisted the fire department.
