No one needs to eat alone on Thanksgiving. Check out these community meals in Bucks County

It's beginning to look a lot like Thanksgiving throughout Bucks County as residents donate and prepare food to help those in need have a happy holiday.

In Plumstead Township, it's "Pack the Patrol Car" time Saturday when police officers will collect food donations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the two Giant Supermarkets in the township to help supply the Bucks County Housing Group's Food Pantry for Thanksgiving.

The Giants are located at 5858 Easton Road in Plumstead and at Cross Keys, 4377 Swamp Road, Doylestown.

Steven Keller, director of food programs for the Bucks County Housing Group, said the regular patrons at the Housing Group food pantries in Doylestown and Penndel already have signed up for appointment times to receive the fixings for their holiday meal but if anyone has a turkey they want to donate, they can call the housing group at 215-750-4344, ext. 104.

Bucks County Tech students prepare Thanksgiving meals

Students at the Bucks County Technical High School in Bristol Township are learning how to debone and roast turkeys that will be served at the Salvation Army's open house holiday dinner, 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday night at the Salvation Army Corps Community Center, 215 Appletree Drive, Levittown.

Culinary Arts Instructor Colin Marsh said the 105 students in the program look forward each year to the meal prep and event. They also learn how to make turkey gravy using broth made from the bones. "It's a good lesson," he said. "We don't mess around."

Major Kim Harris of the Salvation Army said that many volunteers will make side dishes and help with the setup and serving the meal.

Thanksgiving gatherings in Quakertown, Fairless Hills and Buckingham

In Quakertown, the First United Church of Christ at 151 S. 4th St., is preparing to host its annual free, open Thanksgiving meal at noon on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, to church members and the community at large. For meal planning purposes, the church requests those who want to attend to respond with the number of people they will be bringing by Tuesday to 215-536-4447.

The Advocates for the Homeless and Those in Need, a Bucks County volunteer organization which hosts dinners regularly throughout the month at houses of worship will host a Thanksgiving luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Calvary Full Gospel Chapel, 676 Lincoln Highway, Fairless Hills. Covenant Church in Buckingham is again opening its doors to the community for Thanksgiving dinner. The free dinnerll includes "delicious food, fun, friendship, and conversation ... We’d love to share a meal with you and be thankful together this holiday season! Be encouraged to invite a friend along in who may not have plans," organizers said on the website. Church is at 4000 Route 202.
