No one struck, hurt in Thanksgiving shooting

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says that no one was struck by gunfire or otherwise injured in a shooting that occurred in the 6200 block of S. Dixie Highway in Bedford Township around 1:30 a.m. Thanksgiving morning.

Several deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence in the area after Monroe County Central Dispatch received reports of heavy gunfire, according to a press release issued by the sheriff's office.

Upon arrival to the scene, Deputies Tim George, Chase Yeary, Melissa Henderson and Jacob Llewellyn reportedly observed a male subject fleeing on foot into a wooded area located behind the residence. Witnesses advised that the subject seen fleeing was involved in the shooting. The deputies contained the suspect to the wooded area and utilized their department's drone to help locate and take him into custody without incident.

Detectives from the sheriff’s office responded and began investigating the shooting. Preliminary information reveals that a physical altercation ensued between two subjects in the backyard of the residence. At some point during the altercation, the two subjects began exchanging gunfire between one another. Detectives recovered several firearms and spent shell casings at the scene.

The suspect is a 28-year-old male from Toledo. He was arrested and lodged at the Monroe County Jail on felony assault related charges. The victim is a 35-year-old male from Erie. The suspect and victim were acquaintances.
