No severe injuries after train hits car in Oxnard; traffic hampered in area

A Metrolink train traveling southbound through Oxnard struck the back of a vehicle near the tracks at Rose Avenue and Fifth Street Tuesday morning, blocking traffic through the area.

No severe injuries were reported in the crash at 6:17 a.m., said Oxnard police Cmdr. Luis Mc Arthur.

He said the back of the vehicle had not cleared the limit line, and the train clipped the rear of the sedan. A woman driving the car complained of pain but was not taken to the hospital. The 25 people aboard the train were not injured, he said.

Metrolink said on social media its train 104 was involved in the crash and caused delays through the rail system.

The collision caused one of the crossing arms to come loose, and authorities were waiting for Metrolink workers to repair the arm.

In the meantime, traffic on Rose Avenue was closed between Third and Fifth streets, Mc Arthur said. He had no time estimate for the closure.

"It is causing a traffic jam," he said.
