No Shave November raises $41,746 for Reading Hospital cancer fight

Dec. 26—Reading Hospital Foundation raised $41,746 through its annual No Shave November event, the organization announced.

Nearly 300 individuals donated to the monthlong event that helps raise awareness for men's health and shows support for patients undergoing cancer treatment and experiencing hair loss. Tony Forino, a grateful patient and founder and CEO of Forino Co., provided $25,000 in support of the initiative, according to the foundation.

Donations support the McGlinn Cancer Institute at Reading Hospital. Participant Dr. Robert McMurtrie donated the funds he raised to the Phoenixville Hospital Cancer Center.

This year's award for best beard went to Dr. Michael Macciocca, Tower Health Medical Group Cardiology. Michael Voveney, associate vice president of nursing, won for best goatee and best mustache. Christopher Cosce of nutrition services had the most creative selfie.

"The team at Reading Hospital is so appreciative of Mr. Forino's generous gift that will go a long way to provide aid to our patients," said Reading Hospital President and CEO Dr. Charles F. Barbera. "I'd also like to thank the Reading Hospital team members. Each day they come to work with the health of our patients and community as top priority. Through 'No Shave November' they also provided financially to support the programs that help our patients and their families."

Foundation President Katherine Thornton said: "I'd like to thank Anthony's Barbershop, Wilson High School, Allegro Dance, and American Barber & Beauty Academy for their support of 'No Shave November' this year. Because of their kindness and the generosity of our community, team members, and participants the Reading Hospital Foundation can continue to provide programs and services for the patient at McGlinn Cancer Institute."
