No Singaporean casualties in Itaewon stampede, as PM Lee Hsien Loong sends condolences

SINGAPORE — There are no reports on Singaporeans among the casualties in the deadly stampede in the Itaewon district in Seoul, said the city-state's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Sunday evening (30 October).
The ministry added that its embassy in Seoul is in close contact with the local authorities on the situation.
At least 153 people were killed when a crowd surged in a narrow alleyway in Itaewon during Halloween festivities on Saturday night, in one of South Korea's worst tragedies.
PM Lee Hsien Loong pens letter of condolence
Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has written to South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol on Sunday to convey his condolences.
He said he was deeply saddened to hear about the stampede.
"It is especially heart wrenching that many who died are young people," he wrote.
"On behalf of the Government of Singapore, I express my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims.
"Our thoughts are with the people of South Korea during this difficult time, and I wish all the injured a swift recovery."
