No sled? No problem, borrow from free gear library

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Those looking for winter fun at three Grand Rapids parks need not worry if they don’t have their own sleds.

GR Outside, a division of Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation, is offering free sled libraries this winter at Richmond Park, Mulick Park and Plaster Creek Park. You can grab a sled from the station anytime until the end of the winter, GR Outside told News 8.

The program has plenty of other winter equipment in its gear library, including winter clothes and snowshoes. Kent County residents can borrow the equipment by making a reservation online, or setting up an appointment by calling 616.250.6652 or emailing gearlibrary@grcity.us. Gear library walk-ins are also welcome on Fridays between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Roosevelt Park, located at 739 Van Raalte Dr. near Chicago Drive.

Gear library aims to give urban families outdoor adventures

The year-round gear library works off of donations. Other items in its inventory includes camping supplies, which can be checked out after taking a camping certification course.
