No tax increase in proposed Windsor budget

May 7—WINDSOR — Voters will head to the polls Tuesday to vote on a 2022-23 budget that would keep taxes the same as this year while increasing spending by 3.26%.

The Town Council trimmed $265,000 from the town manager's proposed budget to craft a $129,894,300 spending plan that will go to voters, according to information on the town's website.

The budget would keep the tax rate the same at 33.27 mills.

BUDGET VOTE

Polls will be open from 6 a.m.to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at the following locations:

—District 1, L.P. Wilson Community Center, 599 Mattianuck Ave.

—District 2, J.F. Kennedy School, 530 Park Ave.

—District 3, 330 Windsor Ave. Community Center

—District 4, Windsor Town hall, 275 Broad St.

—District 5, Oliver Ellsworth School, 730 Kennedy Road

—District 6, Poquonock School, 1760 Poquonock Ave.

—District 7, Rainbow Firehouse, 79 Rainbow Road

The proposed budget has $76,484,440 for the Board of Education, an increase of 2.85%.

Contractual obligations account for $1.5 million of the increase, while special education tuition and transportation also are increasing. The equivalent of three full-time positions was eliminated to offset fixed costs.

The town operating budget is $36,707,050, an increase of 4.04%.

The town's 2021 grand list, which is used to calculate the mill rate, increased 3.31%, or $105.5 million, over the previous year — resulting in approximately $3.6 million in additional projected revenue at the current mill rate.

The town is expecting to receive $560,000 in additional interest income, along with an additional $155,000 in state aid.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 7 polling places. Because of legislative redistricting, some residents' polling places have changed.
