No turkey? Here's some local places you can go for Thanksgiving dinner

For some people, a large family get-together for that traditional turkey and stuffing dinner at Thanksgiving isn't possible. They don't have to be alone or miss the joy of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner because several area churches and organizations are sponsoring the dinner for community members.

Here are some of the places in Somerset County hosting Thanksgiving dinner:

Hollsopple

Free Thanksgiving Dinner 5-7 p.m. Nov. 17, at Maple Spring Church, 106 Spring Road, Hollsopple.

Central City

The annual free Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be held Thanksgiving Day in the Wilson Community Room in the Central City Borough building at 314 Central Ave. It will be a sit-down complete dinner, free of charge to all residents of the Shade-Central City School District. It will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Carry-out meals will be available starting at 10 a.m. Limited delivery will also be available to residents in Central City Borough and Cairnbrook only. Sign up by Nov. 17, at the Central City Borough office at 314 Central Ave., or by calling 814-754-8290.

Salisbury Church of the Brethren

The Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be held from 12-2 p.m. Thanksgiving Day to eat in at the Faith Factory, 153 Union St., Salisbury. Take outs will not be available until 1 p.m. Limited local delivery is available by calling 814-279-0787 between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. that day.

Berlin Brethren

The Berlin Brethren Church, 620 Main St., Berlin, will be hosting a Thanksgiving meal at 12 p.m. Nov. 23 in the church basement. It is an eat in meal. Call 814-267-3863 to make reservations.

New Beginnings Outreach Center Church

A free Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 23, complete with all Thanksgiving trimmings, at New Beginnings Outreach Center Church, 7398 Somerset Pike, Boswell, one mile north of Jennerstown on the right. Eat-in or take-out. No pre-orders being taken.

St. Paul's United Church of Christ

St. Paul's UCC, 202 W. Union St., Somerset, is hosting the community dinner again this year. Serving begins at 11 a.m. Thanksgiving Day and will conclude at 1 p.m. or when the food runs out. The meal is open to anyone who would like to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal with members of the community. Last year the church served almost 300 meals. The meal is free.

Friedens Lutheran Church

Friedens Lutheran Church, 131 S. Main St., Friedens, Thanksgiving dinner is noon until 2 p.m. Takeout for home bound is available.

Mel's Restaurant & Bar

Mel's Restaurant & Bar, 127 W. Patriot St., Somerset, and Creep's Famous Chicken Thanksgiving Dinner at 12 p.m. Nov. 23, for those unable to be with family or friends, or cannot afford dinner. Creep's chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing balls, green bean casserole and assorted desserts.
