It takes all kinds of love to make the world go round, from platonic love between friends to the unconditional and nonjudgmental love of a pet.
Whether you're single or just looking for more love in your life, here's a selection of February activities at local bookstores for a Valentine's Day alternative.
Sadie’s Books and Beverages

Billed as “more than a bookstore,” Sadie’s offers beverages and cafe options in store and features a host of local art and family history treasures.
This month, Sadie’s-style book C.L.U.B. – short for “Community of Learners for Unapologetic Bookworms” – will read “All About Love: New Visions,” one of the seminal works by American theorist and social critic bell hooks. The 2000 novel explores aspects of love in modern society as told in part through the author’s own romantic experiences.
Attendees of the book club launch party from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, may receive a curated gift set to accompany the title, featuring red- and love-themed offerings from many of the Black-owned businesses who showcase their products at Sadie’s.
The six-week book club experience offers hybrid meeting options, accessible at home or on the go.

This used bookstore in the heart of Walden will host a kitten café from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17.

Come meet the four-legged love of your life, available for adoption from the Walden Humane Society. Learn about the adoption process while sipping coffee or cocoa, vie for a raffle basket and get your photograph in a kitten kissing booth.
Ten percent of proceeds from all bookstore sales benefit the Walden Humane Society.
