Mega Millions jackpot keeps on rising and rising.

Originally estimated at $790 million after Friday's drawing, the jackpot jumped to $810 million on Monday and $830 million on Tuesday, according to the Mega Millions website. The jackpot is an estimate based on sales. The next drawing will be tonight (Tuesday, July 26) and the cash option is now $487.9 million.

The jackpot remains the third largest in Mega Millions history and the fourth largest for a United States lottery (see charts below).

“Players are excited about the chance to win such a life-changing amount of money, so we’re certain that today and tomorrow will be busy days for our retailers," New Jersey Lottery Executive Director James Carey said in a release on Monday.

The numbers drawn on Friday, July 22, 2022 were: 14 - 40 - 60 - 64 - 66 and Megaball 16. The Megaplier was 3x. Friday's jackpot was $660 million.

While no one won it all, there were four million-dollar prize winners. Three tickets sold in New Jersey, New York and Delaware all matched the five white balls and had the Megaplier to win $3 million. In addition, a ticket sold in Virginia won $1 million.

The New Jersey $3 million ticket was sold at the Wawa on Oakshade Road in Vincentown. New York's winner was sold at Smokes 4 Less on Main Street in Fishkill and the Delaware winner at a Royal Farms in Bridgeville.

The $1 million Virginia ticket was purchased online at valottery.com by a Chesapeake resident.

The Mega Millions has not been won since April 15 when a ticket sold in Tennessee won $20 million – it was the second time in two drawings the jackpot was won.

Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot is at $119 million with a cash option of $69.2 million for Saturday night's drawing, according to the Powerball website.

How do I play Mega Millions?

Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. The cost is $2 per ticket, but you can add the Megaplier for $1, which will increase the amount of your potential prize up to five times the original prize (except for the jackpot).

Each player selects five numbers from 1 to 70 for the white balls and one number from 1 to 25 for the Mega Ball. However, you can also have the lottery machine generate a random Quick Pick for you.

Prizes vary from $2 for the matching the Mega Ball to $1 million for matching all five white balls (except in California) to the jackpot for matching all six balls. You can check all the prize payouts on the Mega Millions site here.

You don't need to be a U.S. citizen or a resident a particular state where you purchase your ticket.

Where can I play Mega Millions?

You can play the game in 45 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The states not offering Mega Millions are: Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah.

The annuity option is paid out over time. There is an immediate payment and then 29 annual payments after that, increasing by 5% each year.

The cash option is significantly lower than the advertised jackpot, but it is paid in a lump sum. You don't have to wait decades for all the money.
