Whether it’s dull skin, a super-sized spot on your chin or under-eye bags groaning with the weight of sleep deprivation, there’s nothing a good filter can’t fix. And when it’s a particularly bad face day you’ve got beauty apps, like Facetune and Perfect365, that give you flawless skin with one quick swipe. Imperfections be gone.

But now there’s a new movement sweeping Instagram that’s encouraging users to step away from the photoshop and celebrate their natural beauty by posting tech-free selfies. Forget #Nofilter the newest hashtag on the Insta-block is #Nofacetune. And let us tell you readers it’s oddly liberating.

Rather than using the various retouching apps and filters to share an is-that-really-you? selfie, women are using the discreet hashtag to showcase their natural beauty instead.

And while some brave users are going completely au natural, pimples, wrinkles and all, others are using the hashtag as an opportunity to shout out the foundation, cover-up, and other expertly applied products that helped them create their #nofacetune effect. Because though make-up isn’t natural per se, it’s a lot more realistic than photo-editing, yes we’re looking at you Kim K.

Move over #Nofilter there’s a new hashtag on the Insta-block [Photos: Instagram/sb_skin and blonde1510]

So far more than 2000 women (and some men) have uploaded pictures with the hashtag and with Jourdan Dunn recently speaking out about how she doesn’t do filters (er, possibly because she doesn’t need them!) we bet it won’t be long before it catches on in celeb-land too.

We have to admit a quick scroll through the tag does leave you feeling empowered and while we’re not planning on totally giving up our filters just yet, we might save them for Insta-snapping our lunch. Until #nofoodfilter becomes a thing of course.
