Noisy Water Winery receives state assistance to help expand bottling production

Sep. 17—One of New Mexico's well-known wineries will create a new facility, increase production and hire additional employees thanks to state assistance.

The New Mexico Economic Development Department announced last week that Noisy Water Winery — which has tasting rooms in Albuquerque, Red River, Cloudcroft, Alto and Ruidoso — will receive $225,000 in Local Economic Development Act funds for its expansion in Alto.

The money will be doled out as the business meets economic development benchmarks. And the expansion for Noisy Water will create up to 25 new jobs at an average salary of $42,000, bringing the employee count up to nearly 140.

"The Economic Development Department has been a great partner for us," Noisy Water President and CEO Jasper Riddle said in a statement. "The LEDA money makes a huge difference when a small business is operating on razor-thin margins while focusing on growing and farming sustainably. It's nice that these dollars can be reinvested back into a New Mexico business to build a better place to live and work."

Noisy Water's expansion will boost bottling production to 100,000 cases annually — the winery currently produces around 35,000 cases a year — develop warehouse space and start an employee housing initiative aimed at helping with short- and long-term housing needs, the department said in a news release.

Noisy Water's expansion is also expected to generate an economic impact of $56 million over the next decade.

"EDD is pleased to assist Noisy Water, a New Mexico-grown company that supports sustainable agriculture and invests in our state," EDD Deputy Secretary Jon Clark said in a statement. "Our rural investments, such as this, provide opportunities so families can have year-round employment without leaving their community."
