Prattville student Kei'Yana Marshall named Montgomery Advertiser Student of the Week

Since the launch of the Montgomery Advertiser Student of the Week earlier this year, nearly 60,000 readers have voted in polls to recognize the accomplishments of local high schoolers. These students are described as high-achieving leaders and positive role models in their schools.

This week, the winner of Student of the Week is Kei'Yana Marshall from Prattville High School.

A 16-year-old student-athlete, Kei'Yana maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA while participating in volleyball and tennis, working part-time at Walmart and being an active member of her church.

Kei'Yana's teachers describe her as "kind and uplifting to all who are around her." Coming up, she will be participating in the Miss Lion Pageant, and her community says she is "a model student, athlete and all-around great person."

Congratulations, Kei'Yana!

Principals, teachers and guidance counselors from across the River Region sent in nominations of their top students, and readers voted in our poll from the morning of Monday, Feb. 12 until noon on Thursday, Feb. 15.

New polls and nominees will be announced every week. If your school didn't nominate a student this week, there's always next week. Every high school in the Montgomery area, including Autauga and Elmore counties, is eligible to nominate one student a week who is exemplifying success in academics and community involvement.

In addition to Kei'Yana, two other students were nominated for the honor. They were:

A'Lindseya McCall-Brown, Sidney Lanier High School: Described as a "fantastic young lady who always focuses on her work and does a really good job," A'Lindseya's teachers say she is a model student. She is a self-starter, doesn't mind helping other students and never complains. Sidney Lanier administrators said A'Lindseya is the perfect example of "Poet Pride," and her good grades are also a plus.

Jhaniyah Jackson, Success Unlimited Academy: A senior at SUA, Jhaniyah was elected Miss Success, Best All Around and Most School Spirit by her peers. She is the school salutatorian and has a perfect 4.0 GPA after earning straight As throughout her entire high school career. Jhaniyah is also co-editor of the SUA yearbook, and she serves as president of PEARLS (Pleasant Enthusiastic Articulate Responsible Ladies Succeed), which is a student organization dedicated to preparing and empowering young ladies to become successful leaders.
