Noon update: Officer in surgery after 'ambush-style' shooting in south Baltimore

A Baltimore police officer was shot in what police called an "ambushed-style" shooting in south Baltimore. The shooting happened at approximately 1:35 a.m. Thursday in the 4400 block of Pennington Avenue, according to police. Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison called the shooting a "brazen, cowardly act of violence." The officer was on duty, sitting in her vehicle when someone came up from behind and shot the officer multiple times, Harrison said.
