Nordic skiing state meet: Thursday’s pursuit preview

The high school state ski meet wraps up on Thursday at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, Minn., with the Nordic pursuit races, a two-race combination featuring a classic race followed by the freestyle portion that ultimately crowns the individual state champions.

Team champions also will be determined Thursday, which will include the results of Wednesday’s team sprint competition.

The girls classic race kicks off the action at 10 a.m., followed by the boys race an hour later. The girls freestyle component begins at 2 p.m., with the boys taking off at 3 p.m.

There will be a new state champion in the girls race, with defending champion Sydney Drevlow of Hopkins not participating after she was selected to compete in the U18 Nordic Junior Competitions this weekend in Finland. The same is true for Highland Park’s David Isom, who finished second in last year’s boys race.
