Nordic Valley Ski Resort welcomes season pass holders to slopes, general public to follow

EDEN, Utah (ABC4) — Three days after a devastating fire destroyed the barn at Nordic Valley Ski Resort, officials are welcoming skiers back onto the slopes.

Nordic Valley officials told ABC4 the resort would be welcoming season pass holders to ski on the mountain until 4 p.m. as crews work to move operations into temporary modular trailers.

On Monday, Jan. 15, crews working to groom the trails at Nordic Valley noticed a fire coming from down the mountain. By the time firefighters arrived seven minutes later, flames were already coming through the sides of the 50-year-old barn and moving into the roof.

The barn housed the business offices for the ski resort as well as the ticketing offices and a restaurant. The fire collapsed the roof of the barn and destroyed the resort’s ability to sell and validate tickets for its lifts.

“[Monday] was a very sad day in Nordic’s history as our beloved Barn suffered devastating damages as a result of the fire that occurred,” Nordic Valley posted on social media. “The barn has been around for over 50 years and was a central part of Nordic Valley. What could have been an incredibly dark day was soon transformed by the overwhelming love and support pouring in from this community. We wanted to reach out to you and thank you for your kind words and generous offers to get us back on our feet.”

In an update posted on their website, Nordic Valley said essential infrastructure and vital services are set to arrive over the next few days. Once the equipment arrives, Nordic Valley will be able to reopen to the general public.

In the meantime, season pass holders will be able to enjoy the mountain in the morning and early afternoon. Officials said the main parking lot will be closed but the secondary parking lot is available. The resort won’t be able to sell food or beverages and is asking visitors to plan accordingly. Rentals will also be unavailable over the next few days.

The resort said it’s evaluating the situation on a daily basis and will continue to provide updates.

“Thank you all for your continued patience as we work to continue to give you the freedom to ski,” said Nordic Valley officials.
