Adult Programs

Casual Reads: Light fiction book club will take place at 2 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. Copies of each title will be available at the Nordonia Hills Branch Library one month prior to the discussion. Schedule: Jan. 9, Any book by Elin Hilderbrand; Feb. 13, "Magnolia Palace" by Fiona Davis; March 13, "Anxious People" by Fredrik Backman.

Socrates Café: Adult Discussion and Philosophical Exploration at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 11, Feb. 8 and March 8.

Coffee and Conversation Thursday Book Discussion: 2 p.m. Thursdays. A monthly meeting to discuss fiction and nonfiction titles in a casual group setting. Copies of each title will be available at the Nordonia Hills Branch Library one month prior to the discussion. Schedule: Jan. 12, TBA; Feb. 9, "All That She Carried" by Tiya Miles; March 9, "The Long Weekend" by Gary McMillan.

Writers Guild of Nordonia Hills: A group for aspiring writers at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 18, Feb. 14 and March 15. New writers and old hands welcome, fiction, nonfiction and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share.

Nordonia Hills Game Time: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 21, Feb. 18 and March 18. Meet and join in with players of various games including chess, board and Euro games, role-playing games, mahjong, war games, and regular and trading card games. All ages welcome. Please register.

Mystery Book Discussion: Mystery lovers book club meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Copies of each title will be available at the Nordonia Hills Branch Library one month prior to the discussion. Children’s Programs

Baby Time: 10:15 a.m. Thursdays, Jan, 12, Jan. 19, Feb. 9 and Feb. 16. Baby Time features books, bounces, songs and bubbles followed by a playtime. Baby Time is for ages 2 and under. Register online, by phone, or in person.

Story Time: 11:30 a.m. Thursdays. Jan, 12, Jan. 19, Feb. 9 and Feb. 16. Story time features stories, rhymes, music, sometimes flannels, and bubbles followed by a playtime. Story Time is for children ages 3-5. Register online, by phone, or in person.

Paws for Reading: 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 10, Feb. 14 and March 14; 6:30 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 23, Feb. 27 and March 27. Read a book to a certified therapy dog, Edmund or Sweetie. Bring a book or read one of the library's. This is a great way for children to practice their literacy skills and gain more confidence in reading aloud. Children of all ages are welcome. Messy Monday: 6:15 p.m. Jan. 23, Feb. 20 and March 20. Remember to wear some old clothes, you may get messy. Register online, by phone, or in person. Schedule: Jan. 23, Winter Tree Art — This is a nature art project using sticks, Q-tips (or fingertip), and white paint; Feb. 20, Open-ended art with oil pastels on canvas; March 20, Claude Monet-inspired Kids Art — Make your own bridge over a pond of water lilies after learning a little about the artist.

School-Age Programs

Thrilling Thursdays: 4 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 5, Feb. 23, March 23. Come after school for some fun activities. Schedule: Jan. 5, Sock Snowman — Use a sock, rice, and fiber fill to make a snowman. Then decorate it with ribbon, buttons and markers; Feb. 23, Mario Kart Deluxe 8 on Nintendo Switch and board games. Snacks will be provided; March 23, Make a wind chime out of a cup, beads, washers and string; then decorate it with markers, stickers, etc.

STEM- Build it! 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6. Whether you build by yourself or with a family member, use your imagination to build something with blocks or Legos. This program will be hosted via Zoom. Register at akronlibrary.org to receive a participation link.

Take It Make it Hibernating Bear: Jan. 1-31. Stop into the library for a hibernating bear craft.

Take it Make It Hockey Game: Feb. 1-28. Got the winter boredom blues? Make your own hockey game with craft sticks, colored paper and buttons.

Take It Make It Clothes Pin Bird: March 1-31.

Teen Programs

Dungeons and Dragons: 6 p.m. Second Monday of the month, Jan. 9 and Feb. 13. Starting in March, second and fourth Mondays March 12 and 27, April 10 and 24 and May 8 and 22. Bring your dice and your tankard and join the quest. Snacks provided. For more information, ask Mistress Sue.

Teen Café: 6:30-7:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month. Fifth through 12th graders try something new. Maybe a craft, a recipe or a new skill. Schedule: Jan. 19, create Ice candles; Feb. 16, fry marbles for jewelry or key chains; March 16, make a boho macramé coaster; April 20, expressive writing with Wick Poetry Center at Kent State University; May 18, plant a terrarium.
