North Adams baseball sweeps Waldron; Spartan and Ram softball play high scoring games

The North Adams-Jerome baseball team looks to be a safe bet for one of those groups that are ready to compete against every one of their Hillsdale County SCAA rivals. The Rams started that part of their schedule with a demolishing sweep of the Waldron Spartans on Friday, April 14.

The Rams took out the Spartans in an 11-0 first game. Connor Arsenault threw a no-hitter alongside relief pitcher Daylen Pelhem. Arsenault had eight strikeouts through four innings. Pelhem had two in the fifth. Troy Shamplo pitched for the Spartans, giving up 11 runs on 10 hits over four innings, striking out four.

Nolan Paradine had two hits including a double and triple. Paradine also recorded two RBI and two runs. Thayden Welch had two hits in two at-bats with one RBI and two runs. Kaleb Hale had one triple-base hit, an RBI and two runs. Arsenault had one hit. Jacob Smith had one hit, two RBI and a run. Jace Brink had one hit, one run and one RBI. Carson Delaney had one hit, one RBI and a run. Nathan Todd had one hit and a run. Connor McKay had one run.

Stolen base counts gave Paradine five, Kaleb Hale with three, Delaney with two, Welch with two, Arsenault with one, Todd with one, Brink with one and Jacob Smith with one.

North Adams-Jerome then got a 16-2 second game victory. Pelhem faced seven batters on the mound for the Rams. He got seven strikeouts and gave up one hit. Thayden Welch came in to relieve, striking out five batters and giving up one hit and two earned runs.

Troy Shamplo scored a run and had one RBI for the Spartans. Boyd had one hit. Maverick Stucky had one hit. Bo Leininger had one run. Shamplo had two stolen bases and Stucky had one. Alec Shamplo pitched through all four innings, striking out four batters and giving up 16 runs. There was a scoring discrepancy between the recorded scores from both teams. The Spartans had the final as 17-2.

The Rams' box score gave Paradine three hits in four at-bats with one RBI and two runs. One of those hits was an inside the park home run in the top of the second. Welch scored three runs. Hale had two hits, two RBI and one run. Arsenault had two hits, two RBI and one run. Jacob Smith had one hit, one RBI and one run. Brink had three hits, one RBI and three runs. Carson Delany had two triple-base hits with three RBI and one run. Pelhem had two hits, two RBI and two runs. Connor McKay had one hit, one RBI and two runs.

Stolen base counts gave Brink three and McKay two. Paradine, Hale and Pelham each recorded a stolen base.

The Rams have scored 40 runs in their past three games. Their sweep of the Spartans should give them confidence going into their biggest challenge yet of the young season. The Rams will face off with Pittsford at home on Tuesday, Apri 18 in a doubleheader. The Wildcats are coming off a district championship last season and have found their groove after sweeping Athens in a doubleheader. The Wildcats have strong pitching, and it should be a good matchup for both fan bases.

Rams softball plays high scoring games with Waldron

The North Adams-Jerome and Waldron softball teams played in two of the highest scoring county matchups on record so far this season. Both teams combined for a whopping total of 74 runs in the course of two games.

Game one saw the Spartans take down the Rams in a 20-18 final. For the Spartans, Morgan Burk had four hits and four runs. Mackenzie Bur had one hit, one RBI and four runs. Jena Fellabaum had two hits, two RBI and three runs. One of those hits was a doubleheader. Dezirae Gomez had three runs and an RBI. Emma Wines had three hits, three runs and three RBI. Mackenzie Leininger had one run. Becca Fether had one run and an RBI.

Haylee Shamplo opened the game on the mound for the Spartans. She struck out two batters and gave up 10 runs, one earned. Jena Fellabaum earned the win in relief pitching duties, striking out eight batters in little over four innings. She gave up eight runs, two earned.

For the Rams, Lydia Little had a double-base hit, one RBI and two runs. Trumble had a double-base hit and three runs. Miranda Daniels had two runs. Wynter Nelson had two double-base hits, four RBI and two runs. Schroeder had one run. Taylor had one run. Sydney Carpenter had one double-base hit, two RBI and two runs. McIntrye had one run and two RBI. Hailie Rice had two RBI, one hit and three runs. Smock had two RBI and one run. Wynter Nelson pitched all seven innings, giving up 20 runs and two earned. She struck out five batters.

In game two, the Rams rocked the Spartans with a 17-7 swing heading into the fourth inning. The Spartans answered back and took the lead in a shortened game due to limited daylight.

Morgan Burk had one hit and two runs for the Spartans. Mackenna Burk had one hit and two runs. Jenna Fellabaum had a home run that drove in two base runners. Fellabaum scored four runs. Gomez had one RBI and a run. Wines had one hit, three RBI and three runs. Wines' hit was a double. Brockway had one RBI and a run. Shamplo had one hit, three RBI and two runs. Fuller had two runs and two RBI. Fehrmann had one RBI.

Fellabaum pitched all four innings, striking out three and allowing 17 runs, 11 earned.

Little pitched for the Rams, striking out one and giving up 19 total runs, 12 earned. Little had a base hit and two runs. Trumble had two runs and an RBI. Daniels had a double-base hit and one RBI and two runs. Nelson had two hits, three RBI and two runs. Nelson had a double-base hit. Carpenter had one hit, one RBI and two runs. Hampton had one hit, two RBI and a run. Rice had one RBI and three runs. Smock had four RBI.

Next up on the list for the Spartans is Tekonsha on April 18. The Rams face Pittsford on the 18th.
