North Augusta sweeps boys' golf region titles

May 1—The North Augusta boys' golf team won the Region 4-AAAA title by 21 strokes Monday at West Columbia's Charwood Golf Club.

The Jackets, the co-No. 1 team in Class AAAA, finished with a team total of 7-over 291. Jackson Beggs claimed the individual title with his score of 1-under 70.

Matthew Baxley and Davis Neal each shot 73 to join him on the All-Region team, and the Jackets also counted a 75 from Andrew Baxley.

No. 4 South Aiken was second at 312, followed by Aiken (315), host Airport (373) and Midland Valley (381).

The T-Breds were led by All-Region duo Miles Eubanks and Cameron Biddle, with each shooting 72. South Aiken also counted a 79 from Patrick Desmond and an 89 from Peyton Owen.

Richard Anaclerio led Aiken High with a round of 73 to earn All-Region honors. The Hornets also counted a 78 from Tucker Creshaw, an 81 from Tucker Samaha and an 83 from Ryan Anaclerio.

Trevor Williams shot an 85 to lead Midland Valley. The Mustangs also counted a 92 from Peyton Goodwin, a 101 from Jonathon Moyer and a 103 from Gabe Sawyer.

Baseball

Greenville 8, Aiken 1

Aiken High lost its Class AAAA playoff opener Monday at sixth-ranked Greenville, meaning the Hornets will need to win Wednesday at home against York to extend their season.

The Hornets were initially scheduled to face Greenwood on Monday, but the Class AAAA bracket was altered hours before first pitch after Airport was removed from the postseason for using a player found to be ineligible. As such, the Hornets moved up from the No. 4 seed to the No. 3 from Region 4-AAAA.

Additionally, South Aiken moved up from No. 3 to No. 2 in the region and hosted Easley on Tuesday night. Also, Midland Valley was a late addition to the playoff field, taking over the No. 4 seed from the region that Aiken previously occupied. The Mustangs visited Greenwood on Tuesday night.

Boys' Soccer

South Aiken 3, Easley 2

South Aiken opened the Class AAAA playoffs with a 3-2 win Monday over visiting Easley.

Peter Reinhart scored twice, Wyatt Garrett scored a goal and Parker Cozzi made several key saves in net for the T-Breds, who will visit Catawba Ridge on Wednesday in the second round.

Greenville 2, Aiken 1

Aiken High's season came to an end Monday in the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

Dylan Jeffcoat scored the lone goal for the Hornets (15-7) off an assist from Marco Diaz, and Job Diaz made six saves in net.

Silver Bluff 7, Landrum 1

Silver Bluff cruised past Landrum on Monday in a 7-1 win to open the Class AA playoffs.

The Bulldogs advance to Wednesday's second round and will face either Greenville Tech or Abbeville.

Saluda 6, Fox Creek 3 (2OT)

Fox Creek's season came to an end in the opening round of the Class AA playoffs.

The teams were tied at 3 at the end of regulation and the first overtime period before Saluda scored three times in the second overtime.

Clayton Cooper, Cannon Joyner and Gavin McMahon each scored a goal, Mark Monaco had two assists and Ian Rodriguez had one assist for the Predators. Marcus Snyder made 23 saves in net.

Barnwell advances to second round

Barnwell's boys are moving on to the second round of the Class AA playoffs after picking up a road victory Monday over Region 6-AA rival Woodland.

The Warhorses will visit Bishop England on Wednesday.
