North Avenue Market food hall on Milwaukee's west side cuts hours temporarily, loses multiple vendors

North Avenue Market, the food hall and co-working space on Milwaukee's west side, is reducing its hours until spring and losing several vendors.

The changes take effect next week.

North Avenue Market, 5900 W. North Ave., also plans changes to its lower level that would increase traffic. It's planning to hold comedy shows, trivia nights, paint and wine classes, yoga and other events, including rental for baby showers and other private parties.

The hall will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays and open 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, 4 to 11 p.m. Thursdays to Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. It's open its regular hours this week, starting at 7 a.m.

North Avenue Market, which opened Sept. 8, made the announcement on social media Wednesday morning.

Because the food hall won't be open most mornings as of next week, the coffee shop at the building's drive-thru, A Taste of Java, will close temporarily starting Feb. 6, according to the announcement.

The market intends to "expand the operation to include more food options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as reopening the drive-thru. These changes lead to rebranding to a cafe which better matches our new menu," it said in its announcement, but it didn't specify the changes.

Additionally, the market has lost or is losing several vendors. S'Blendid Boba Tea, which drew a following for its fried-chicken sandwiches in addition to its boba drinks, closed Jan. 29 at the market hall but intends to reopen elsewhere, according to social media posts.

Also departing: Fresh Farm Bowls, which announced Jan. 19 that it was closing, and Arty's Sweet Talk Cupcakes, whose offerings on the food hall's lower level included vegan and gluten-free bakery.

The food hall said in its posting that new vendors would be coming in but did not specify them.

In the meantime, Bittercube Bar and its Mosler's Vault bar, Dawg City and Sam's Deli remain at the hall, and conference rooms and co-working space still are available.

Part of the changes in the lower level will include a facelift for Mosler's Vault, the food hall's announcement said.

North Avenue Market's developer wasn't immediately available to answer questions.
