NORTH CANTON – A fire caused about $50,000 in damage Monday to a home at 211 Wise Ave. NE.

No one was injured.

Firefighters were called at about 6:30 p.m. and responded with 13 firefighters, two engines, a ladder truck and a rescue unit. They rescued a cat.

A woman told investigators that she had made dinner earlier in the evening using an air fryer and then began to clean her house. The smoke detector went off as she was running her vacuum, authorities said.

She also told them that she tried to put out a fire on the stove but when unsuccessful, she left the house with her child.

In addition to the damage to the structure, the fire caused about $25,000 in damage to contents, authorities said. They are still trying to determine the specific cause.
