North Canton Medical Foundation awards grants
NORTH CANTON − North Canton Medical Foundation recently awarded 2023 grants and made charitable contributions to community organizations totaling about $500,000.
The foundation focuses on awarding grants to not-for-profit organizations that improve the health and wellness of the community. The group awards grants twice a year. The next grant cycle will open on Feb. 1. To learn more or how to apply for a grant, visit ncmf.com.
The following organizations received grants:
Access Health Stark County, to support community health workers’ efforts working with clients to help manage multiple chronic diseases, in addition to the challenges of community conditions: $100,000.
Aultman Health Foundation, to support its Serenity Program to serve victims of domestic violence, interpersonal violence, dating violence, elder abuse, human trafficking, non-fatal strangulation, and sexual assault at Aultman Hospital, Aultman Massillon, and Aultman Orrville Hospital: $50,000.
A Whole Community Inc., for program supplies and to purchase fresh produce "seconds" from local farmers to distribute to low-income individuals and families in Wayne County: $5,000.
Beacon Charitable Pharmacy, to work with community organizations to increase access to medications, vaccines and professional pharmacy services: $20,000.
Hartville Migrant Ministry, for vaccines, home medical supplies, diagnostic, laboratory, vision, dental and mental health services, and diabetic medication for the migrant agricultural workers in Hartville: $25,000.
Margaret B. Shipley Clinic, for medical and lab supplies and medical test kits for pediatric patients: $16,120.
National Society to Prevent Blindness, Ohio Affiliate, to help prevent vision loss by providing equitable access to donated, professional exams, follow-up care and eyewear to underserved, underinsured children, families, and older adults: $ 5,000.
Malone University, for equipment employing new technology that is in use in hospitals today so nursing students are prepared to safely administer medication to patients: $15,000.
Child and Adolecent Behavioral Health, to provide a certified prevention staff member to deliver Botvin life skills and a social emotional curriculum for fourth to sixth graders: $5,000.
United Way of Greater Stark County, as a part of United Way’s Centennial Project, to support the Triple-P parenting program and a community health worker who will coordinate services to Gibbs Elementary students and their families: $33,333 (second year of a three-year commitment totaling $100,000).
Compassion Delivered Inc, for computers and technology necessary for the delivery of nutritious meals to Stark County residents who are coping with life-threatening illnesses or diseases: $5,752.
North Canton Cares Pantry, for wellness items, including personal hygiene and fresh produce for distribution at the biweekly food pantry: $2,000.
Refuge of Hope Ministries, to fund dental care lab costs for the homeless men residing at the emergency shelter: $5,000.
Canton Museum of Art, to support the Art for Health and Healing Program, an accessible art therapy program: $5,000.
Canton Regional Area Health Education Center, to recruit, train and retain a health professional workforce to aid underserved populations: $34,000.
The foundation also made a special gift of $100,000 — the fifth of five totaling $500,000 — to support the creation of the Aultman Timken Family Cancer Center.
In addition to the grants, the foundation also made charitable contributions to the following:
Aultman Hospital, to provide financial assistance with chemo cool caps for cancer patients undergoing treatment.
Melanoma Awareness, to provide sunscreen to be distributed at Dogwood Pool and YMCA summer camps .
NCMF Cancer Relief Fund, to provide and distribute gas and grocery gift cards to cancer patients in partnership with Aultman Hospital.
NCMF Retired Physician Program, to support retired physicians who volunteer in the community.
Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, for meals for families facing hunger.
