North Canton Medical Foundation awards grants

NORTH CANTON − North Canton Medical Foundation's latest 2022 grant award recipients as well as charitable contributions to community organizations total about $500,000.

North Canton Medical Foundation focuses on awarding grants to not-for-profit organizations that have a positive, sustainable impact on the health and wellness of the community.

The agency awards grants twice a year. The next grant cycle opened Feb. 1. To learn more or how to apply for a grant, visit ncmf.com.

Grantees include the following:

  • Access Health Stark County, to support the efforts of community health workers who work with clients to help manage multiple chronic diseases, in addition to the challenges of community conditions: $100,000.

  • Aultman Hospital, to provide support for its cancer dietician program to improve the health outcomes of the new Aultman Timken Family Cancer Center patients with dedicated nutritional services: $53,040.

  • Domestic Violence Project Inc., to support the Medical Advocacy Program, which provides advocacy for domestic violence survivors in a medical setting and emergency rooms, and training and consultation to local medical professionals: $30,000.

  • Hammer and Nails Inc., to purchase project materials and cover the cost of the Project Director labor to complete preservation, upkeep, safety and health-related home repair services for disadvantaged elderly and disabled Stark County homeowners: $8,000.

  • Hartville Migrant Ministry, to purchase vaccines, home medical supplies, pay for diagnostic, laboratory, vision, dental and mental health services and diabetic medication for the migrant agricultural workers in Hartville area: $25,000.

  • Margaret B. Shipley Clinic, to secure funding for the medical supplies, laboratory supplies and medical test kits needed to care for pediatric patients: $10,000.

  • National Society to Prevent Blindness, Ohio Affiliate, to reduce the incidence of unnecessary vision loss by providing equitable access to donated, professional exams, follow-up care and eyewear to underserved, underinsured children, families, and older adults: $5,000.

  • Stark County Hunger Task Force, to purchase healthy and accessible food for the Backpack for Kids Program: $10,000.

  • Stark County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery, to sustain reminder software for three large community behavioral health agencies in Stark County: $16,667.

  • United Way of Greater Stark County, as a part of United Way’s Centennial Project, to support both the Triple-P parenting program and a community health worker who will coordinate services to students of Gibbs Elementary and their families: $33,333 (first year of a three-year commitment totaling $100,000)

  • Vantage Aging, to provide meals for hungry and homebound seniors and people living with disabilities in the Canton area: $15,000.

  • Access Health Stark County, to support the standard early childhood vaccine project in Canton City Schools: $25,000.

Special gift:

  • A gift of $100,000 (year 4 of 5) totaling $500,000 to support the creation of the Aultman Timken Family Cancer Center.

In addition to these grants, North Canton Medical Foundation also made charitable contributions to the following:

  • Aultman Hospital, to provide financial assistance with chemo cool caps for cancer patients undergoing treatment

  • Melanoma Awareness, to provide sunscreen to be distributed at Dogwood Pool and YMCA summer camps to promote skin protection

  • North Canton Medical Foundation Cancer Relief Fund, to provide and distribute gas and grocery gift cards to cancer patients in partnership with Aultman Hospital

  • North Canton Medical Foundation Retired Physician Program, to support retired physicians who continue to volunteer in the community
