North Canton school board accepts several resignations

KEY ACTION: Accepted several resignations, including two coaches.

DISCUSSION: The board accepted a resignation from of Hoover High varsity head cheerleading coach Logan Ferwerda effective June 1. The board also accepted the resignation of Josh Mason, online credit recovery teacher and head varsity girls’ basketball coach at Hoover High School, effective at the end of the 2021-2022 school year, contingent on the approval of his contract with Tiffin University.

The board also accepted the resignation of Karen Baily, transportation secretary, effective May 30.

OTHER ACTIONS:

  • Approved certificated substitute rate of pay be increased to $110 per day, effective July 1.

  • Approved Day Camp field trips for the sixth-grade students and 22 staff, to attend outdoor education field trips for the 2022-2023 school year at Camp Y-Noah in September 2022, with no cost to the board except transportation and teacher stipends.

  • Approved an out-of-state field trip for the North Canton Middle School eighth grade field trip to Washington, D.C., and Gettysburg, from March 14 through March 16, 2023, with no cost to the board.

  • Authorized a partial roof replacement at Northwood Elementary School for $149,600 with Techniques Roofing Systems LLC.

  • Approved the purchase of soccer/Lacrosse facility LED lighting from Musco Sports Lighting LLC at a cost of $264,590.

  • Approved lunch prices for 2022-2023 at $2.75 to $3.50 and breakfast prices from $1.75 to $2.25.

The board also accepted the following gifts:

  • Accepted gifts:

  • $1,000 from the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Ohio Charities (VFW Post 7490), for the Senior Citizens Prom.

  • $4,241.71 from the Hoover Vocal Music Association for the Hoover High School musical productions.

  • $7,500 from Jack Miesmer, to award three Hoover High School graduating seniors a $2,500 scholarship.

  • $2,000 from the Shambaugh Family Scholarship Fund, to award one Hoover High School graduating senior a scholarship.

  • $880 from the Carioti family to award a scholarship to a Hoover High School male and female athlete ($440 each).

  • $2,000 grant from Walmart in North Canton, for the reading specialists at Orchard Hill Intermediate School.

  • $1,000 from Carol Blazar for the Paul Reeder Service Scholarship, to be awarded to a Hoover High School senior.

  • $1,300 from Rotary Club of North Canton, for the nationals trip for the Hoover High School Speech & Debate qualifiers.

  • $2,500 from Sideliners for the Hoover High School Viking Views, to help pay for miscellaneous expenses and publication of the Viking Views.
