CANTON − The Shootouts, a popular retro country and honky-tonk band, will make its Grand Ole Opry debut on the same day the band releases a new album.

The Shootouts, helmed by Ryan Humbert of North Canton, will perform at the venerable venue on Feb. 24.

An accomplished solo artist and singer-songwriter in Northeast Ohio, Humbert has found even greater success with The Shootouts in recent years.

The forthcoming album "Stampede" follows the group's sophomore effort, "Bullseye," which drew critical acclaim from Rolling Stone magazine and other publications and media outlets. The 2021 release also enjoyed chart success, reaching the top 10 of the Americana Music Association Radio Albums Chart, a list that included major acts like Grammy winning alt-rockers The Black Keys, Counting Crows, Loretta Lynn and Steve Earle & the Dukes.

Receiving the phone call about the Grand Ole Opry show was monumental for Humbert.

"Tears of joy were shed,” the lead singer said in a news release. “Being invited to perform on that stage, and to become a part of that history, is quite literally a dream come true. It doesn’t seem real, and likely won’t for a long time to come.”

The Nashville venue is legendary as a showcase for iconic country music acts, promoting itself as "the home of country music."

Past performers include Hank Williams, Elvis, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Roy Acuff and Johnny Cash, as well as more contemporary country music stars like Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, Martina McBride, Emmylou Harris, Alan Jackson, Trisha Yearwood, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, Lauren Alaina, Dierks Bentley and Trace Adkins.

The Shootouts are known for a fast-charging blend of honky-tonk, Americana and Western swing that stands out from the contemporary country music scene. The band often says their music is "country music for people who don't like country."

The Shootouts, a Northeast Ohio-based vintage country and modern honky-tonk band, will release their third album, "Stampede" on Feb. 24. Two new songs, "Better Things to Do" and "Run for Cover" were released late this year.

"Stampede" was produced by Ray Benson, a pioneering figure in the American roots music and Western Swing genres.

Benson and members of his Grammy-winning band Asleep at the Wheel contributed to the song “One Step Forward.” Two singles from the forthcoming album are available on major streaming platforms, including “Better Things to Do” (featuring Marty Stuart) and “Run For Cover.”
