North Carolina Bound: ZLL Majors Softball advances to LLWS

Jul. 29—WHITESTOWN — North Carolina here they come.

The Zionsville Little League Majors (12U) Softball All-Stars topped Canfield Little League (Ohio) 4-3 to advance to the Little League World Series in Greenville, North Carolina.

Down 1-0 in the third, Zionsville tied the game up on an RBI-triple by Sammie Kulwicki, scoring Tess Bradford.

The score remained that way until the fifth.

Jenna Dittmer and Riley Cunningham led the inning off with back-to-back singles. After a ground out put runners on the corners and a pop out, Hadley Bray stepped up with two outs.

On a 2-1 pitch, Bray looped a fly ball into shallow right, and two Ohio players collided going for the ball, allowing two runs to score on the triple. Kate Skura followed with a single to make it 4-1.

Ohio got two runs in the bottom of the inning, but a mistake on the base paths allowed the Eagles to get out of the inning with the lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Ohio put runners on second and third with two outs, but Cunningham made a nice sliding catch in the infield for the third and final out.

The Eagles will now face Missouri for the Central Regional Championship. Both teams have advanced to the LLWS, and the game will decide which of the two pools they are in.

Because of COVID, no international teams will be at the LLWS, so two teams from each region advance to Greenville.

This story will be updated following game two.
