North Carolina power outages: Over 259,000 outages reported after more severe weather
Over 259,000 homes and businesses reported losing electricity in North Carolina over the past three days as the state faced more heavy storms Monday.
Wake and Rowan counties lead the number out outages with 77,866 and 17,923 respectively, according to USA TODAY's power outage tracker. More than 70,000 outages were reported in the Raleigh area and over 6,000 in Sanford, on Monday evening, according to the Duke Energy outage map.
Duke Energy's grid specialist Jeff Brooks posted on X, formerly Twitter, that nearly 250,000 customers across both North and South Carolina lost their power.
"Calm after the storm here in Raleigh. Now the work begins," Brooks wrote in a later X post Monday evening. "Crews are out repairing outages and seeing lots of downed trees and lines."
At 8pm, very strong winds and severe weather have left nearly 250K @DukeEnergy customers w/o power across #nc and #sc. More than 4K outage locations will need to be repaired to restore all customers. Crews will restore power once safe to do so. Power out? Text OUT to 57801 pic.twitter.com/sBByJm4UYx
