What is North Carolina’s top fast food joint? Here’s what one major news site says.

It’s not Bojangles and it’s not Cook Out.

North Carolina’s best fast food restaurant, according to MSN, is the iconic breakfast drive thru Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen.

It’s a butter-filled wonderland every morning at this legendary Chapel Hill restaurant, which also has a location in Louisburg. Located on Franklin Street heading into downtown Chapel Hill, Sunrise serves biscuits that create their own traffic patterns, as biscuit-seeking drivers often wait in lines spilling out into the road.

In naming Sunrise the top fast food restaurant in North Carolina, MSN praised this biscuit palace for its comfort food.

“The famed biscuits are the kind you need both hands to eat, and customers say they’re perfectly buttery and flaky, with generous fillings of fried chicken, egg, bacon, sausage, and cheese,” the article reads. “If you’re seriously hungry, order a hash brown on the side and slip it inside your biscuit for even more indulgence.”

Sunrise has been around since the 1970s, serving a familiar Southern style of biscuit. Chapel Hill is the brand’s most visible and busiest location, serving and endless stream of biscuits out of a 500-square-foot drive-thru.

In a poll of readers of The News & Observer, Sunrise’s biscuit was narrowly bested by another popular North Carolina brand, with voters handing the flour crown to Bojangles.
