North Carolina woman dead, several injured after car crash in the Loris SC area Thursday

A head-on collision Thursday involving three vehicles led to the death of a North Carolina woman and injured four others along Highway 701 near Loris.

Christine Hardy, 76, of Tabor City, died on the scene from injuries sustained from the car crash that happened about noon, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Patty Bellamy. Four people were also injured and brought to McLeod Health Seacoast by EMS.

According to Master Trooper Gary Miller with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, there were three vehicles involved in the crash: a box truck, a subcompact SUV and a sedan. The box truck was headed north on Highway 701 while the others were going south. The box truck struck the other two cars head-on. The crash happened along the highway near Edwards Road and Waccamaw Drive, near the North Carolina state line.

Hardy was driving the SUV, according to the report. The other drivers were injured, along with two passengers.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
