North Dakota Farmers Union provides meals to National Guard troops

Mar. 11—Members of the National Guard serving in Washington, D.C., are getting a treat from Farmers Union Enterprises, according to Mark Watne, president of North Dakota Farmers Union.

Farmers Union Enterprises will be donating $50,000 to provide roughly 5,000 soldiers with a nutritious meal from Founding Farmers restaurants, based in the Washington, D.C., area, he said, in a press release.

"Farmers are about feeding people," Watne said. "They do important work, just like our troops. This is our way of thanking the Guard for their service in protecting our Capitol and democracy. We hope the taste of good made-from-scratch homestyle cooking from our farmer-owned restaurants reminds them that we appreciate their sacrifice and the time they've spent away from their families."

Farmers Union Enterprises is made up of several Farmers Union-owned businesses that help fund Farmers Union organizations in Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin, as well as FUE programs and National Farmers Union, Watne said.
