North DeSoto, Many, Homer advance to LHSAA state title games

Playing on the road doesn’t seem to bother North DeSoto football.

The Griffins (12-1) stepped out of Griffin Stadium and went south to face No. 1 Iowa (11-2) in the LHSAA Non-Select Division II semifinals and came away a 38-9 winner. The Griffins are adding to their school history with each win. They’ve never advanced to the Superdome since the school was built in the 1980s.

Luke Delafield threw a pair of TD passes to Trystan Hopper and Brian Banks, while Banks added a rushing score. Senior John Lewis and Marquis Hampton also scored, and Landon Falls added a field goal.

The Griffins will face Lutcher for the state title.

Many 32, St. James 13: The Tigers (12-0) will be making a fourth consecutive trip to a state championship game with the win over St. James (10-3). Trent Williams scored three times for Many, while Tackett Curtis added another TD and Deacon LaFollette punched through a field goal. Many will face Union Parish in the title game.

Homer 38, Mangham 18: The Pelicans (10-3) are heading to back-to-back state championship games after topping the Dragons (10-2). A strong defensive fourth quarter power the Pelicans. Andrevious Buggs scored three TDs, passing for two and rushing for one. Elyjay Curry also scored on a 20-yard run, while Katrevick Banks and BJ Hamilton caught TD passes. Jamarquese Hampton and Walteze Champ had fumble returns for a TD for the Pels.

The Pelicans will face Oak Grove (11-3) for the state title.

Union Parish 28, Amite 8: The Fightin’ Farmers (12-1) will be making a third consecutive trip to the state championship game with a win over Amite (10-4). Trey Holly, quarterback Jordan Hill and Jamarion Island scored rushing TDs. Armani Harper had a scoop-and-score off a blocked punt. Union Parish will face No. 1 Many for the state title.

Oak Grove 42, Haynesville 7: The Golden Tornado (11-3) fell victim to four turnovers in the second meeting with Oak Grove (11-3) this season. The lone score came from Alonzo Jackson in the fourth quarter. Oak Grove will meet Homer in the title game.
