Will Tuesday be a snow day for your student?

The first significant snowfall this winter is expected to hit North Jersey Monday night into Tuesday and schools in the area are announcing school closures, delayed openings and shifts to virtual learning.

A winter storm warning is in effect in the northwest portion of the state, while the rest of the North Jersey is under a winter storm advisory. Snow could start falling early Monday evening before the storm is expected to move out Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service is predicting 6-8 inches for areas in the state's northwest, such as West Milford, and 4-6 inches for the more northeastern areas.

Tuesday morning's commute could prove to be messy as some areas will change over to a wintry mix of snow and rain.

"Please exercise caution on the roads ... Stay safe, New Jersey," Gov. Phil Murphy tweeted in advance of the storm.
