North Las Vegas police shoot, kill armed man; 3 women, 1 dog found dead in apartment complex

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man was shot and killed by North Las Vegas police prior to officers discovering the bodies of three women and a dead dog, according to police.

On Tuesday around 3:15 p.m., officers responded to an apartment complex in the 2200 block of East Nelson Avenue near Civic Center Drive and Carey Avenue after a 911 call reporting gunshots.

While the caller was on the phone with 911, the dispatcher was able to hear gunshots being fired in the background, police said.

When officers arrived, they approached the courtyard and encountered an armed man who was walking towards the officers. North Las Vegas officers gave the man verbal commands to drop the firearm, but he ignored them and continued to walk toward the officers, police said.

Two officers then shot at the man, hitting him, according to North Las Vegas police.

Officers then began to check nearby apartments for any potential victims related to the original shooting call.

During the search, three women and a dog were found dead in two separate apartments. A young child was also found unharmed in one of the apartments, police said.

The names of the deceased individuals, as well as the cause and manner of their deaths, will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s office after the next of kin have been notified.

Per NLVPD policy, the identity of the officers involved will be released after 48 hours.
