North Memphis shooting leaves man critical

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say a man was taken to Regional One in critical condition after a shooting late Sunday night.

Officers responded to the 800 block of Leon Place at 11:17 p.m. They found one man with gunshot wounds.

A woman at the home told us the shooting started after the suspects tried to rob those in the house.

According to Memphis police, the victim’s girlfriend was inside the home when the victim pulled into his driveway. She told officers she saw strangers slowly walking past her home before the shooting began.

She says she heard three gunshots and saw her boyfriend crawling to the front porch.

According to Memphis Data Hub, there have been nine incidents within a quarter mile of Leon Place so far this year.

“There is no respect among us. If you go into these communities you will see parents talking in any kind of way to their kids. Cursing. Just doing evil things,” said a neighbor.

He says he believes Memphis has a crime issue because no one is teaching respect.

“We as a community have got to unite together and fight this crime,” he said.
