North Penn marching band to take field at Philadelphia Eagles game Sunday

The North Penn School District marching band will have the opportunity to both showcase its popular performance and raise awareness for early cancer detection on possibly the state's grandest sports stage.

The marching band will perform at halftime of Sunday's Philadelphia Eagles' home game against division foe, the Washington Commanders.

The band will perform as part of the Eagles' and National Football League's "Crucial Catch" effort to fight cancer through early detection and risk reduction.

The North Penn School District confirmed Sunday's performance through a post on Facebook.

"The North Penn Marching Knights is going to #engagecommunity this weekend — they are playing halftime at the Eagles game! The North Penn Marching Knights have been invited by the Philadelphia Eagles to provide the halftime entertainment at this Sunday's 1 PM game versus the Washington Commanders," read North Penn's post. "This is part of the Eagles Crucial Catch Initiative. Each year, every NFL team raises awareness during their Crucial Catch game, which features on-field and in-stadium elements. Crucial Catch games also present a special opportunity to honor cancer survivors and those currently battling cancer.

"The NPMK Color Guard will be spinning flags featuring the colors of all the Cancer Awareness Ribbons. If you're at Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday, be sure to watch halftime to cheer on the Knights and recognize cancer survivors!"

The NFL's Crucial Catch games feature on-field and in-stadium Crucial Catch cancer prevention stations, while also presenting a special opportunity to honor cancer survivors and those currently battling cancer.

The Eagles will honor Hall of Fame linebacker Bill Bergey as part of its Crucial Catch game.

Bergey played seven season for the Eagles, and his career accomplishments include being a two-time All-Pro, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, and three-time Eagles MVP.

Bergey was diagnosed with cancer two years ago after a visit to his dentist, and that experience has led Berger to be a proponent of early detection.

"If they feel like there's anything wrong, go check it out and make sure that you stay on top of it, because the quicker you can do it, the quicker you're going to be in good shape," Bergey said in a statement releases by the Eagles. "How do you know that you have cancer if you don't know if you have cancer or not? Have it checked out. If there's anything that's bothering you, I would give it an all-in on that one."
