North Platte falls to unbeaten Marionville in Missouri HS football state championships
The unbeaten Marionville Comets shut out the North Platte Panthers 29-0 on Friday afternoon, winning the state championship for Missouri Class 1 high school football at Faurot Field in Columbia.
North Platte struggled in the Show-Me Bowl state finale at Mizzou’s Memorial Stadium in Columbia. But Marionville, which left no doubt in wrapping up a 14-0 campaign, did not.
Sophomore Marionville running back Cash Pomeroy rushed for a team-leading 117 yards, including a touchdown run of 67, and teammate Hugh Eaton scored twice for the Comets, who laid claim to their first state championship since 2003.

A perfect 14-0 season was as good as it gets. Incredible defense all year long. Great playmakers in the backfield. Incredible run for the Comets football program. pic.twitter.com/mRPDkmCDLU— Wyatt Wheeler (@WyattWheeler_NL) December 1, 2023
Winless in back-to-back seasons just two years ago, North Platte (12-2) had advanced to its first state title game since 1998 by beating Windsor 42-6 in the quarterfinals and Milan 54-34 in last week’s semifinals.
Marionville survived Portageville 17-14 in the quarters before hammering St. Vincent 38-7 in the semis.
