North Portland jazz club The 1905 set to reopen in spring

PORTLAND, Ore. (PORTLAND TRIBUNE) — The North Portland jazz club that shut down abruptly last fall will reopen with new leadership this spring.

The 1905 shut down in November 2023, leaving employees out thousands of dollars in unpaid wages.

‘Right-size’: Nike announces significant cuts to workforce

After ousting former co-owner and operator Aaron Barnes, co-owners of the business are planning to reopen in the same space off North Mississippi Avenue in the next four to six weeks.

Barnes had made multiple public pleas for donations in the months leading up to the club’s closure, but still shut down with no notice to employees despite raising more than $67,000 — a sum that attests to how beloved the seven-year-old bar was by Portland jazz lovers.

Chris Pfeifer, who previously worked at Portland bars Barrel Room and Chandelier, will head up the operation. Pfiefer is also involved with planned music spaces Corbitt & Macleay and 400, which are in development in Southwest Portland. “I’m looking at this space as a compliment to the others,” Pfiefer said.
