North Sports: Week in Review / Bill Moon is new SFIS soccer coach

Jun. 20—After his departure from Capital High School as football coach, it did not take long for Bill Moon to find a new job, taking over the long-vacant position at Santa Fe Indian School.

Meanwhile, the Jaguars announced former West Las Vegas head coach Joaquin Garcia as their new coach. Garcia has been the coach for the Capital running backs and linebackers over the past two seasons.

Moon, who is coming off his second stint with the Jaguars, has a strong record of building and rebuilding programs, and that was a big factor in his selection over a handful of other applicants, said Carl Brock, SFIS athletic director.

"He has a wealth of experience," he said. "He has an attitude that we're really looking for, helping these kids get to a better place than they were the day before, and take steps toward improving."

Moon coached at Capital for 18 years, compiling a 36-38-1 record in his second round of seven years at Capital, and won three district championships. He's already brought on board his former defensive coordinator, Kevin Hauck, who has been defensive coordinator at St. Mike's, as well as John Martinez, his former offensive coordinator at Capital.

"I would die with a wonderful grin on my face if we can do something great at Indian School," Moon said.
