Northbound lanes of the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel will close Thursday night at the request of Virginia State Police.

The closure will start as early as 9 p.m. and could last up to two hours, the Virginia Department of Transportation said in a news release.

Traffic will be redirected to U.S. 17, or Exit 9, toward the James River Bridge, the release said.

Thursday is the second night in a row northbound lanes closed at the request of state police.

Sergeant Michelle Anaya, a state police spokesperson, said the closure is related to an alleged shooting incident Wednesday at the bridge-tunnel.
