Northeast Florida Builders Association apprenticeship program has historic class of 77 new graduates

During a recent graduation ceremony, the Northeast Florida Builders Association’s (NEFBA) Apprenticeship Program proudly certified its largest class in history - 77 new apprentices.

This comprehensive program offers 4 years of classroom instruction and on-the-job training for trades such as carpentry, electrical work, HVAC, plumbing, and sheet metal.

The Apprenticeship Program is celebrating its 50th year after getting started in 1973 by Carmel Morris and several local area electricians in reference to the need for skilled trades professionals.

The University of North Florida hosted the graduation ceremony, with Tim Conlan - the Vice-President of NEFBA Training and Chairman of the Apprenticeship Executive Committee - serving as the Master of Ceremony.

Conlan extended his congratulations to the graduates, while NEFBA Executive Officer Jessie Spradley, Current NEFBA President Chris Wood, and educational partner President Lisamarie Winslow of Keiser University were also present. Notable attendees who made the event special for the 50th anniversary were Laura Laseman, John Griffin, and Jonny Moore.

“It is an incredibly exciting time for our NEFBA Apprenticeship Program to be graduating our largest class of skilled professionals while celebrating our 50th year. We added the Sheet Metal trade four years ago and this is our first graduating class since that trade’s resurgence,” said Christina Thomas, Director of Workforce Development. “I am continually impressed by the ambition and achievements of these individuals. They are the future of our workforce and industry.”

“Graduation is the pinnacle of ‘why we do what we do.’ To see the families, colleagues, employers, and community come together and celebrate the commitment each of these graduates is very rewarding,” stated Tim Conlan, NEFBA Vice President of Training.

The NEFBA Apprenticeship Program is accepting applications through June 12, 2023.
