Northeast Florida high school Athlete of the Week poll: Jan. 9

Clay's Jacob Bucci is the Florida Times-Union's 19th Northeast Florida Athlete of the Week for the 2022-23 high school sports season, covering the week of Dec. 19-24.

A sophomore, Bucci won the 106-pound division at the Palm Bay Ships championship, winning the quarterfinal and semifinal by fall and the title match by decision.

He placed first in a vote of top performers that included Juan Bruce (Fletcher boys basketball) and Taliah Scott (St. Johns Country Day girls basketball).

This week's vote

It's time to vote for Florida Times-Union's Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 2-7, 2022.

The Times-Union gathers nominees from scores, stats and nominations e-mailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across Northeast Florida. Coaches can e-mail these stats and scores to preps@jacksonville.com.

This week's voting begins Monday morning and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.

Here are the nominees for Jan. 2-7:

Barrett Baker, Bishop Kenny boys basketball

The senior guard scored a team-high 19 points in a 63-47 win over Yulee and shot the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to win 44-42 at Westside.

Mya Greer, Paxon girls soccer

The senior forward scored a hat trick and added an assist for the Golden Eagles, defeating White 8-1 in the opening round of the Gateway Conference tournament.

Logan Moore, Middleburg boys wrestling

The senior won his contests by fall against Ponte Vedra, Ridgeview and Oakleaf in the 145-pound division to help the Broncos to the District 3-2A dual championship, Middleburg's first-ever district duals title.

Erin Rizzuto, Ponte Vedra girls wrestling

The senior swept through the field at the Lady Wildcat Scramble in Lakeland, winning all five contests in the 115-pound division and helping the Sharks to fourth place in the team standings.

Logan Spence, Keystone Heights boys soccer

The senior scored seven goals and two assists as Keystone topped Baker County 6-0 and Interlachen 8-0, raising his career total above 50 goals.

Nykeria Thomas, Mandarin girls basketball

The junior combined for 53 points, 27 rebounds and 18 steals, including two double-doubles, during a Mustangs week that included a 50-48 loss to Creekside, a 47-24 win over University Christian and a 62-27 win over Atlantic Coast.
